ENVIRONMENTAL MANAGEMENT AND TOXICOLOGY (EMT)

In recent years, there has been a growing emphasis on the need to control environmental pollution and degradation. Although this is receiving attention at the postgraduate level in various universities in the country, little or no attention has been given to it at the undergraduate level. Few universities where similar programme has been mounted seem to emphasize on “built-up environmental problems” and not the substances that are actually harmful and toxic to the environment. Against this background, the department was created to address:

i. Training of specialized manpower in different aspects of environmental pollution, analysis, monitoring, protection and control
ii. Inculcation of the tenets of environmental management systems in the oil and gas industry, manufacturing industry etc.
iii. Environmental Conservation and Management of Natural Resources for sustainable development
iv. Waste Generation and Management Technology
v. Environmental Management Tools
vi. Analysis and interpretation of ecological material
vii. Toxicity and toxicological survey of biological resources in the environment
viii. Analysis of environmental problems using geoinformatics
