HEALTH SERVICE DEPARTMENT
The Department is one of the oldest in the university.
As soon as the first set of students commenced lectures, a Principal Medical Officer and a Principal Nursing Officer were sent from University of Benin to set up a small clinic.
This arrangement was overtaken later following the appointment of substantive Management staff by the Federal Government.
The Department currently operates 24 hour service from a purpose built health centre, a beautiful edifice (phase I) of the complex, which was completed in 2011.
Services commenced in the building in 2012 with the appointment of its first set of staff.
Recently, the Health Centre was accredited as a primary care provider with the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) and is providing services for enrollees who are staff of the University and their dependants.
It is hoped that the centre will be able to attract clientele from outside the University
