Following the visit of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Warri Chapel to the University on Tuesday, July 1, 2014, the Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University of Petroleum Resources, Effurun, Prof. John Ovwata Etu-Efeotor, appealed to the press to give the University adequate publicity.

While playing host to the pressmen, the VC noted that the importance of the press in the development of any University cannot be over-emphasised considering its global followership.

He used the event to appeal to well-meaning Nigerians and stakeholders to support the development initiative of the University as they would be immortalised through naming of such projects executed after them.

Etu-Efeotor said in the next two years there would be massive infrastructural development as peace and harmony exist in the University, assuring that the University would form partnership with the Union in ensuring that the established relationship already is sustained.

Speaking earlier, the Chairman of the Warri Chapel of NUJ, Mr. Michael Ikeogwu noted that there was a need for the Union to go into partnership with organisations so as to furnish the public with the right information and also promote the development of such organisations.

According to him, the Union had created a platform for organisations to project their activities and achievements, emphasising that the Vice-Chancellor would soon be invited to the platform to render his stewardship in the University.

The NUJ Chairman further solicited the Vice-Chancellor’s support for the renovation of the Union’s Press Centre and hosting of the forthcoming Press-Week of the Union coming up in September 2014, adding that the VC would also be one of the guests speakers at the event.
