LIBRARY UNITS

 
The library is presently structured into four units, namely:
- Administration
- Collection Development
- User services
- Technical services

Administration
The administration oversees the day-to-day running of the library which includes management of personnel, budgeting, and library development.

Collection Development
The unit handles selection and acquisition of library materials, including gifts and exchange documents. It is worth mentioning here that the acquisition policy of the library provides for the involvement of academic staff in the selection of relevant materials to be acquired. The policy also provides for adequate coverage of all the disciplines in the university.

User Services
The user services comprises of the following sections:
- Circulation
- Reference
- Serials
- E-Library

Circulation section is involved in the registration of library users, charging and discharging of books, and staff and students clearance.

Reference section renders assistance to library users in the area of meeting the enquiries of users. It also help the user to identify and retrieve relevant research materials from the shelves etc.

Serial section house journals, dallies and magazines. These provides research and current information to users.

e-library provides internet services to the library clientele. It houses e-resources, including some databases, which can be accessed and downloaded by staff and students. The NUC virtual library is also accessed in the library.

Technical Service
The technical services deals with the cataloguing, classification and indexing of library materials. This section organizes the library collection, using the library of congress (LC) classification schemes – the schedules, subject headings as well as the AACR2.
