It is with great delight that I specially congratulate you as my administration marks its first year in office today. It has been an eventful and memorable period in the annals of this University, and it’s worth celebrating.

It’s been a year of several unimaginable feats that are gradually repositioning and rebranding FUPRE to take the centre stage in the comity of universities scaling higher heights, doing exploits and making waves across the globe, particularly on the African continent.

As a privileged Vice-Chancellor of this university, I, alongside the Registrar, Mr. Ejikemewor Ichendu assumed office on May 4, 2015 with a clearly-defined mandate to transform FUPRE into a global citadel of higher learning, research activities and a regional hub for consultancy services in the oil and gas industry.
In this past one year, we have put in place relevant structures to promote learning, teaching, research, industry-university partnerships and strategic community relations programmes to set FUPRE on the path to becoming one of the international institutions of first choice with state-of-the-art facilities for qualitative education.
On assumption of office, we discovered that to build FUPRE into a global brand and a world class university, we needed to create a strategic road map to serve as a compass for the accomplishment of our mandate. We also devised a blueprint to drive our efforts and began harnessing every available resources and exploring opportunities to advance the course of FUPRE. Several academic and professional programmes have been introduced to enhance our academic visibility and relevance to the immediate community.
We have strategically established partnerships and linkages with Universities and other like-minded organizations on a win-win basis that are already yielding positive results for the University, while working tirelessly to find solutions to the challenges of this University.

Providence has already started smiling on us as a University which to me is a pointer to greater things ahead of us. Our efforts have been crowned with some awards and laurels both nationally and internationally.

You will recall that FUPRE Shell Eco-Marathon Team (inaugurated on May 27, 2015), won two outstanding awards in South Africa with its prototype racing car, christened Delta Cruz 001 on October, 2-4 2015. These were: the Most Energy Efficient Car and Technical Innovation Awards. These awards placed FUPRE on global news headlines and still resonate across the continent of Africa till date.

Our students also emerged first at the Petrol Bowl competition, proceeded to represent Africa in United States of America and got to the second round of that competition. Also, FUPRE RACE Research Team won the OTL (Africa) Downstream Innovation Award for its work on pipeline surveillance robot.
FUPRE ranked 12th out of the 74 Nigerian Universities that featured at the 8th Nigerian National Mathematics Competition for University Students (NAMCUS) that held between April 3-9, 2016 where our students from the Department of Mathematics won silver and bronze medals and got enlisted into the top 2% and 5% of young Mathematicians in Nigeria.

In October 21, 2015 the National Association of Oduduwa Students conferred “Outstanding University in Nigeria Award 2015” on FUPRE, while just yesterday, the League of African Development Students, (Leads Africa) conferred “Corporate Mandate Award to Management, Staff, Students and Stakeholders in FUPRE Award” on this University.

Let’s be conscious of the fact that we represent a unique niche in the economic development of this country and I believe FUPRE has the potential to trigger industrial development of this nation by generating the intellectual resource that can make that a possibility.

I sincerely congratulate all staff and students for all these achievements within this one year, while soliciting for your support in prayers and unwavering commitment to the tasks assigned to us in the respective areas where we have been privileged to render our stewardship to this University. This certainly will be the pathway to our ultimate success.  I acknowledge and appreciate you all for the current challenges we are facing in the course of putting structures in place to guarantee the future of FUPRE.  This can be likened to labour pains which will usher in bliss in the near future.

As we look forward to better and brighter days ahead of us in FUPRE, we have every cause to first commemorate these landmark achievements. To that effect, a special programme of activities to celebrate our accomplishments will come up at a later date where we shall seek to count our blessings before God in deep appreciation.
