Dr. Oghenekohwiroro Edjere was born on September 22, 1965 into the humble family of Olorogun Matthew Edjere and Mrs Mary Edjere from Ughelli South and Ughelli North Local Government Areas of Delta State, Nigeria respectively.
After primary school education, he attended James Welch Grammar School, Emevor from 1978 to 1983, and proceeded to then Bendel State University (now Ambrose Ali University, Ekpoma) where he obtained a bachelor’s degree in Chemistry (B.Sc. Hons) in 1990. He served the one year mandatory National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) programme at Ansar-ud-deen High School, Ejigbo, in the old Oyo State (now Osun state) from 1990-1991.
In 1993, Dr. Edjere had the honour and privilege of being trained in Europe where he was professionally groomed as a Production Chemist with IDC, System, AG Switzerland from 1994 -1999, before joining Bachema Laboratories AG, Switzerland where he worked as a Senior Analytical / Environmental Chemist and researcher from 1994 till 2014.
During his years in Europe he attained a Master of Science degree (MSc) in Analytical Chemistry at the prestigious Robert Gordon University, Scotland, UK, and thereafter concluded his PhD thesis at the University of Benin, Edo State where he obtained a Doctorate degree in Environmental Chemistry in 2015.
Putting into practice over 20 years of knowledge and experience acquired from his time in the industry, Dr Edjere is versatile in Sustainable Management of Natural Resources, Laboratory Analysis and Techniques, Instrument Calibration and Management of Contaminated and Industrial Wastes Materials amongst other areas of specialization.
It is pertinent to note that during the short period of his return to academia since 2014, he has contributed immensely as a researcher to the development of the Chemistry profession in Nigeria with the publication of over 30 scientific papers in both international and locally recognized journals, and a book that is currently under review.
Dr. Edjere is a Fellow of both the Chemical Society of Nigeria and the Institute of Chartered Chemists of Nigeria. He is currently the Secretary, Editorial Board of the Delta Chemist journal. He is also a member of the following professional bodies: Nigeria Environmental Society, Swiss Association of Environmental Chemists, Institute of Safety Professionals of Nigeria, Waste Management Society of Nigeria and the Swiss Chemical Society.
Dr. Oghenekohwiroro Edjere is happily married to Mrs Otega Edjere (Nee Okpan) and their marriage is blessed with five (5) wonderful children. He gives all the glory and adoration to Almighty God.
