Chemical Engineering


The Department was established in November, 2009. The pioneer Head of Department was Prof.  Abiola Kehinde with 21 students as the first intake through the JAMB entrance examination. The first set came into campus in2010 for the Five-year Bachelor of Engineering Degree Programme as part of the College of Technology and the core mandate of the University. The Second intake of students for the 2010/2011 Academic Session was 27.

The students started Departmental practical in 2011/2012 Academic Session. This led the Department to seek collaboration with the Department of Chemical Engineering situated at Oleh Campus of the Delta State University. In furtherance of the vision, Engr. Oluwafemi Olayebi was appointed a pioneer coordinator for the Department in November, 2011. The Department produced its first set of graduates in 2013/2014 Academic Session. Subsequently, Dr. P. W. Igbagara was appointed as the second coordinator for the Department in the year 2015.

The Department subsequently acquired its own laboratory during the 2015/2016 academic session and has been in use till date. In 2014/2015 academic session the Department graduated its second set. Presently, there are three hundred and ninety – nine (399) students in the Department across its 5-levels. The Department has a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Warri Refinery and Petrochemical with a view to finding solutions to operational problems in the refinery.


Vision of the Department:

The Department of Chemical Engineering aspires to produce world class individuals who upon graduation are functional engineers versed in the theoretical principles and practical applications of the discipline.

Philosophy of the Department

The philosophy of the Department of Chemical Engineering is to develop and provide basic Chemical Engineering education geared towards producing manpower at highest level for the achievement of national goals through industrialization and humanity in general.
