RECYCLING OF WASTE MOTOR OIL TO DIESEL-LIKE FUEL

The University in its drive to champion innovative research in the oil and Gas sector has developed a technology in the recycling of waste motor oil to diesel-like fuel. This study is aimed at solving the common environmental pollution problem arising from the indiscriminate disposal of waste motor oil.

In most motor service garages/stations, used motor oil is collected as Waste Motor Oil (WMO) in containers for disposal. There are established challenges with the disposal/re-use of WMO. FUPRE has successfully developed a process that converts WMO to a diesel – like fuel which can be used for diesel engines thereby reducing the negative environmental impact of this substance.
