1. Postgraduate Diploma (PGD) in Engineering
To qualify for the award of the PostgraduateDiploma, a student must:
(a.) Register for and pass the prescribed taught courses
(b.) Obtain at least 50% of grade “C” in each of the taught courses
(c.) Submit a project work which must be accepted by the Department.
To obtain a PGD in Chemical Engineering, a candidate must satisfy the examiners with minimum of 64 units, made up of the follows: 51 units of the core courses; 4 units of the elective courses; 3 units of the Design Project; 6 units of Research Project.
2. Masters’ Degree
To fulfill the requirements for the Masters’ degree, every student shall:
(a.) Register for and pass a minimum of 31 units comprising 24 units of coursework, 1 unit of seminar and 6 units of research.
(b.) Obtain not less than 50% in any written examination.
(c.) Present a research proposal to the department
(d.) Present at lease a seminar in the area of research topic approved by the Board in partial fulfillment of the award of the degree of Masters.
(e.) Pass an oral examination arranged to defend the dissertation before a Panel of Examiners approved by Graduate School Board.
3. Doctor of Philosophy (Ph. D.) Degree
The requirements for the award of Ph. D. shall include:
(a.) The candidate shall be required to have taken the core/compulsory courses prescribed for the M.Sc. /M. Eng. as prerequisites. This is in addition to the minimum 21 units which include research and seminars prescribed for the Ph.D.
(b.) Passing course work examination (where applicable).
(c.) Passing of written and/or oral qualifying examination in subjects of the student’s study programme.
(d.) Presentation of research proposal to the department.
(e.) Presentation of seminar or seminars according to the requirements of the department.
(f.) Successful defense of the thesis in an oral examination.
